西元2087年，位於月球成立的軍事政權統一國家「吉卡諾斯帝國」以創立宇宙新秩序為口號，向地球統一聯合政府「地球聯合」挑起了獨立戰爭。吉卡諾斯帝國以質量投射器和新研發的巨大人型機器人Metal Armor（通稱MA）攻佔地球，短時間就佔領了地球70%的土地。為了挽回頹勢，地球聯合軍奪取了三台新型的MA「D兵器」，組成了DRAGNAR游擊隊，展開了一場跨越宇宙的戰爭。
