一年前，響子在丈夫惣一郎去世後，心中留下了一個解不開的心結，為此管理一刻館的公公向她推薦管理員這份工作，並希望響子能夠一片低谷的陰影中走出來。因此開始擔任常駐管理員的響子，也邂逅了大學落榜生五代和其他的房客，在忙碌生活的期間，雖然響子明白五代對自己的好感，然而因對亡夫念念不忘，因此不知該如何做出回應。另外其他房客時常衝進五代的房間開宴會，加上被誤認成五代女友的七尾梢出現，也令五代的生活更顯得忙碌起來，響子雖然表面上不說，但始終對五代和小梢之間的關係耿耿於懷。另一邊，響子在一之瀨的介紹下，加入主婦網球俱樂部，結識了家境優渥且體能卓越的三鷹瞬教練，因此五代與三鷹也宣告互為情敵。
