故事敘述一個十四歲的不良學生「浦飯幽助」。他為了救一名小孩在意外中身亡。但是由於靈界並沒有預料到他的死亡，亦沒有他的容身之所，所以靈界小閻王便透過靈界嚮導員「牡丹」向幽助提出 " 重生 " 的考驗，使他得到了一個復活的機會。經過了靈界的考驗，幽助終於重回自己的身體，並成為靈界偵探。 之後幽助和結識的好友「桑原」、「飛影」、「藏馬」等人，展開了一場又一場的打鬥及冒險……
