一位因為看得見妖怪而被人類疏遠的女子夏目玲子，為了打發寂寞的日子，她向妖怪們發起挑戰，並將敗在自己手下的妖怪的名字寫在一紙契約上，以此做為妖怪們成為自己屬下的證據。 玲子的孫子夏目貴志得到了那些契約書所做成的『友人帳』，還繼承了玲子的力量，能看到不會顯現在人前的物體。而且也和玲子一樣成為了被周圍人疏遠的一員。 可是，作為唯一繼續了玲子血統的他卻做出了一個重要的決定：將玲子奪過來的姓怪們的名字一一歸還。在這樣的夏目的身邊，開始聚集起各種各樣的妖怪們…… 能看到妖怪的少年夏目貴志，與招財貓外表的妖怪喵先生一起，將為大家講述一個奇異、悲傷，懷念、令人感動的夏日怪談故事。
