漩渦慕留人雖然身為木葉英雄—第七代火影漩渦鳴人的兒子，但慕留人卻並沒因為這樣而喜歡父親。慕留人希望將父親鳴人完全否定，並且有著超越其父的想法，於是懇求身為父親永遠對手的宇智波佐助收他為徒，決定寫出屬於自己的新一頁，讓父親對他另眼相看。中忍考試，慕留人因受到科學家方助教唆，使用違禁品—科學忍具比賽，想讓父親看清楚他的本領。然而，發現這一切的鳴人卻當場判定慕留人敗北，並取消他的中忍資格。村子遭遇危機，忍術對敵人無效，使鳴人佐助煩惱。這時，佐助想起了慕留人那會隱形的螺旋丸，要慕留人對敵人使出螺旋丸。可惜慕留人的查克拉已耗盡，鳴人用他的查克拉幫慕留人使出大玉螺旋丸，擊倒敵人。村子恢復平靜，慕留人嚮往著在暗處保護村子的佐助，以佐助為目標努力著。
