After spotting a spark in Volkner in Flint Sparks the Fire!, he instructed Flint to battle Ash and forced Volkner to watch. The ploy worked, as Volkner regained his interest in battling and agreed to go up against Ash.<br /> <br /> In <i>The Fleeing Tower of Sunyshore!</i>, the Proprietor returned to his café while Ash and Volkner had their Gym battle, though it soon lost power after Team Rocket stole the Sunyshore Tower.
