Ash and his friends ran into Maya and while her Chimecho battled McCann's Scizor. The battle ended with McCann's victory. Her cheery nature softened McCann's hardened stance against all Trainers who he viewed as unworthy of his training. With little effort, she convinced her grandfather to have a battle with Ash and have a rematch the following day.
