中學聯賽三連霸的籃球名校「帝光中學」的籃球社，社員數超過百人，其中更有著被譽為「奇蹟世代」的五位天才籃球員，和一個既沒有出場紀錄，也無人記得的「夢幻的第六人」黑子哲也。這些人在升上高中後各自就讀不同的學校，而黑子遇上了火神大我，自美國歸來的籃球好手，火神立志打敗「奇蹟世代」並成為日本第一的籃球員，而黑子也決定成為他的「影子」幫助他。他們在日本全國高校綜合體育大會和冬季盃中與「奇蹟世代」裡的五位籃球好手陸續對決。
