故事發生在一個名為六軒島的小島上。這裡是大富豪右代宮本家的所在地，每年10月第一個週末，家族成員都會赴島出席家族會議。 1986年10月4日，家督右代宮金藏病重，暫由長子藏臼主持會議，其他子女都在遺產分割問題上爭吵不休。而在書房裡的金藏完全不屑於理睬如禿鷲般的兒女們，閉門專注研究神秘黑魔法。孫兒女則懶理父母之間明爭暗鬥，相處氣氛十分融和。屋內還有五名傭人，其中三位得到家督寵信，當中兩位又與本家邂逅…… 由於颱風的緣故，六軒島成為了與外界隔絕的孤島。兩日後颱風退去，警方登島後只看到慘絕人寰的景象。事後有人找到了一封期望解開魔女殺人真相的信，令事件成了多年來無人能解的謎題。在與世隔絕的兩天裡，島上到底發生了什麼事？是魔女殺人還是人類作案？ 海貓鳴泣之時，無人生還。
