故事描述在一個魔法等於一切的世界裡，身為孤兒的亞斯塔雖然天生就沒有魔力，但仍毫不怠懈地努力鍛鍊自己。他和同為孤兒的好友尤諾立志要一起競爭魔法帝的寶座。在魔法書授與儀式中，尤諾得到了傳說中的四葉魔導書，而亞斯塔則得到了反魔法的五葉魔導書。之後兩人還一起去參加魔法騎士團的入團考試，亞斯塔在歷經一番波折後，總算是成為「黑色暴牛騎士團」的一員……。
